It
is exciting to have a team of 12 on our local Woodland Quiz team!
That’s
more than doubled from last year!
Those
of you that home school ought to present this idea of Teen Quizzing to your
local home school group, because that is how ours got larger!
If you don’t have a local TEEN quiz team, you don’t have to home school to do so, but it just takes a couple to get it going. It is very important to get our YOUTH into the Word!
There
IS Teen Quizzing on our district. If
you do not have this dynamic, fun, ministry in your church, you should! The best person to contact about this is
James Holston, WAPAC Teen Quizzing director at Jsholston8@aol.com.
You
may also get information on a few websites and learn more about it by going to:
www.youthquiz.com and www.jumpster.org. Teen Quizzing officially starts with a meet in Oct. and goes
through April. Their meets are the
FIRST Sat. of the month, unless otherwise noted and/or a holiday occurs. The costs involved are generally the
materials you buy from www.youthquiz.com,
jump seats from www.quizequipment.com
and other items you might deem necessary.
A few other great websites are: www.acmequiz.com,
of which I personally like for ordering the Study Guides. Another one with $1 Scripture portions is: www.wbqa.org
The fee to attend each meet has been $5 per quizzer.
Parental
involvement is a key, just like it is in Children’s Quizzing. A quizzing demonstration is also given at
the WAPAC Jr. High Summer camp.
The
format of teen quizzing is much different than Children’s Quizzing. For more detailed information see the
specifics listed on a sheet given at a Quiz Rally a few years back (click here:
How Quizzing Works). The team is comprised of no more than 6
members(the two subs would alternate EACH round), 4 in the jump seats at a
time, but there could be less. A teen
quizzer, after hearing the question, or part of it, jumps off their electronic
pad that signals a light and/or buzzer to go off. The first person up, gets to answer the question. If correct,
they are awarded individual and team points.
A quizzer “quizzes out” after he/she has answered 4 questions, whereas
in Children’s Quizzing the quizzer HAS to answer ALL the questions.
Won’t
you consider having this exciting ministry in your church? There’s nothing more important than
instilling God’s Word in our youth’s hearts and minds. It’s not hard to do this. Think of the eternal applications it will
make on our youth’s lives. Teen
quizzing offers not only a Bible study geared for teens, but fellowship and
lasting friendships with Christian teens across our district.
